Arizona Diamondbacks Trade Craig Breslow to Boston Red Sox

Red Sox Hire Breslow as Chief Baseball Officer

In a surprising move, the Arizona Diamondbacks have traded left-handed pitcher Craig Breslow to the Boston Red Sox for right-handed pitcher Matt Albers and center fielder Scott Podsednik.

Breslow, who has spent the past two seasons with the Diamondbacks, is a veteran of 10 seasons in the Major Leagues and has a career ERA of 3.32. He is expected to provide depth to the Red Sox's bullpen, which has struggled at times this season.

In return, the Diamondbacks receive Albers, a 29-year-old right-hander who has a 3.58 ERA in 16 appearances this season, and Podsednik, a 34-year-old outfielder who has played for the Braves, White Sox, and Athletics in his career.

Breslow's trade to the Red Sox marks the end of his second stint with the team. He previously pitched for Boston from 2012 to 2013 and was a member of the team's World Series championship team in 2013.

The Red Sox have also announced that they have hired Breslow as their new chief baseball officer. In this role, Breslow will be responsible for overseeing the team's baseball operations, including player personnel, scouting, and player development.

Breslow's hiring is the latest in a series of changes for the Red Sox, who have struggled to a disappointing 43-55 record so far this season. The team has fired manager John Farrell and replaced him with Alex Cora, and they have also traded away several key players, including closer Craig Kimbrel and outfielder Mookie Betts.
