Marcel Sabitzer Joins Borussia Dortmund From Bayern Munich
Borussia Dortmund have signed Austria midfielder Marcel Sabitzer from rivals Bayern Munich on a four-year deal, the Bundesliga club announced on Monday.
The 29-year-old has returned to the Bundesliga after two seasons with Bayern, where he won the Bundesliga title twice and the Champions League in 2020.
Sabitzer has been capped 68 times by Austria and was part of the squad that reached the last 16 of the 2021 European Championship.
He is expected to make his debut for Dortmund in their Bundesliga opener against Bayer Leverkusen on Aug. 5.
"Marcel is a player with a lot of experience at the highest level," Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl said. "He is a versatile midfielder who can play in several positions and will add quality to our squad."
Sabitzer said he was excited to join Dortmund.
"Borussia Dortmund is a great club with a passionate fan base," he said. "I am looking forward to playing in front of them and helping the team achieve its goals."
Dortmund finished eighth in the Bundesliga last season and will be looking to improve on that performance under new coach Edin Terzic.
The signing of Sabitzer is a major boost for the club, and he is expected to play a key role in their quest for success.
